Lagos Taskforce Clashes With Hoodlums on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

Commuters were stranded on Wednesday afternoon along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway as commercial bus drivers stopped operations. It was gathered that some operatives of the Lagos State TaskForce had earlier stormed the Abule-Egba and Ijaiye areas in the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of the state. The Taskforce officers were said to have been on enforcement duty when some unknown persons confronted them with dangerous weapons. It was learnt that the Task force operatives shot at the hoodlums suspected to be transport workers and allegedly gunned down two of the hoodlums. The ensuing confrontation caused a scare as commuters and traders in the areas scampered for safety. The Chairman of the Task force, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, confirmed the incident but denied that his men gunned down any of the hoodlums. A branch of Access Bank at Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State has been gutted by fire on Wednesday.  PUNCH gathered that a part of the bank's building was gutted by fire after a petrol tanker exploded near it. "Our men are on the ground, trying to combat the inferno. Thanks for notifying us," it tweeted via @Fedfireng.  Federal Fire Service confirmed the incident at 10.20 am.

Ogun serial killer smoked out with technology before death – CP

   The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Edward Ajogun, on Tuesday, disclosed that he and his men employed technology to smoke out alleged serial killer and drug addict, Feyisola Dosumu, from a dungeon and shot him dead. Ajogun said the command employed technology to fish out the suspect when it became difficult to apprehend him where he hid in the bush. Dosumu, aka Spartan, had been declared wanted by the police. He had reportedly killed no fewer than seven people in Ogere and Iperu-Remo, in the Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State. The suspect was shot dead by joint security forces in Ogere on Tuesday. Ajogun explained that the suspect was killed in his dungeon built in the bush in the Ogere area, after two days of operations. UNILAG Crisis: Buhari appoints John Momoh acting Governing Council chair

The federal government has appointed the Chairman and CEO of Channels TV, John Momoh, as acting chairman of the governing council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka. Mr Momoh, who is the president of the institution’s alumni association, has been a member of the council representing the association. His appointment follows the removal of lawyer and businessman, Wale Babalakin, from the position over the leadership crisis in the university. In a letter addressed to the ace broadcaster dated August 21, 2020, and signed by the permanent secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, Mr Momoh was directed to convene an emergency meeting of the council to “consider and, if found suitable, approve the senate nomination of the acting Vice-Chancellor for University of Lagos, in line with the enabling Act.” The letter which is referenced; FME/PS/606/C.I/III/129, is titled; “Emergency Meeting of the Governing Council of University of Lagos.” It further reads in

NDLEA Uncovers New Route For Banned Drugs Import

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered a new route used by criminally minded persons to import drugs into Nigeria. The Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Colonel Muhammad Abdallah (rtd), who disclosed this, said the agency has discovered another 40-foot container at Brawal terminal in Lagos. He explained that the discovery was made during follow up investigations by the NDLEA after the police intercepted a 40-foot container laden with about 40 cartons of tramadol and other banned drugs, concealed in cartons of brushes. A joint examination conducted on the container revealed that 255 cartons of different types of tramadol and other banned medicines were concealed therein. According to Abdallah, further investigation by the NDLEA revealed that the tramadol was manufactured in Pakistan; a newly discovered country for the manufacturing of such drugs formerly known to have its origin in India. ‌   The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, on Tuesday, paraded a commercial boat helmsman, Bimbo Elebiju, for allegedly causing the death of 12 of his passengers while conveying them to their destinations. The victims were said to have drowned after the wave of a ship sailing along the Kirikiri waterfront made the boat, which engine had been switched off during an argument between Bimbo and his passengers over the fare, to capsize. Odumosu, while parading Bimbo at the command headquarters in Ikeja, said 20 passengers boarded the boat from Kirikiri to Badagry, but while on the way, the passengers disagreed with the helmsman on the fare. Odumosu said Bimbo indicated that the fare was N1,500, but the passengers insisted on paying N1,200, adding that the helmsman switched off the engine of the boat by the waterfront because of the N300 difference in fare.    Lance Corporal Ajayi Kayode, a serving military personnel in Lagos State, has been arrested for alleged Internet fraud.  Kayode was arrested in the Lekki axis of the state by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.      Ajayi Kayode The soldier, who was arrested alongside 26 others, said he was still learning "yahoo yahoo" (Internet fraud) from his friends when he was nabbed.  He confessed that his friends, who were teaching him, had told him that cybercrime was the best way to make quick money hence his involvement. Man, 34, bags 50 years imprisonment for raping 19-year-old girl in Lagos

  A 34 -year-old man, John Otema,  has been sentenced to 50 years imprisonment by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, for raping a 19-year-old student of UNILAG on campus. Otema, a UNILAG graduate, was charged before Justice Abiola Soladoye with three counts of rape and assault occasioning harm on two female students.   He was found guilty on two-counts of rape and assault occasioning harm in respect of the rape of the 19-year-old student.   He was therefore sentenced to 50-years in prison for the rape and three-years in prison for the assault with both sentences to run concurrently.  

Lagos GAC Member, Lanre Rasak, Dies After unsuccessful surgical operation

By: Olusegun Apena   A member of Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) Chief Lanre Rasak who was pronounced dead early morning of Saturday is reported to have died as a result of failed surgical operation. Chief Rasak, a former commissioner for transportation in Lagos, was said to have been indisposed for several weeks and was not attending political meetings before passing on. A Source very close to one of his Aides disclosed to The Lagosian that the deceased had already concluded arrangement to travel abroad for medical treatment over an undisclosed ailment before the outbreak of Covid-19 prevented him from embarking on the proposed trip.  The source further revealed that after waiting several weeks for the global lockdown to be lifted his state of health  worsened and was taken to Reddington Hospital, Lagos where he eventually gave up the ghost after unsuccessful surgical operation. Kano Sharia Court Sentences Musician To Death Over Song Allegedly Against Prophet Muhammad

    A Sharia court in Kano State has sentenced a musician, Yahaya Sharif Aminu, to death for one of his songs alleged to be blasphemous against Prophet Muhammad. At the court on Monday, the presiding judge, Khadi Aliyu Muhammad Kani, found Aminu guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging, Daily Trust reports. The musician is said to be a member of the Islamic Tijjaniya sect and Faidha group. Aminu was arrested after a protest by Muslims in the state where they threatened to take laws into their hands. The angry youth had earlier set ablaze the family house of the musician in Kano municipality. This comes weeks after a humanist, Mubarak Bala, was arrested by the police in Kano and issued death threats over a Facebook post said to be blasphemous against Prophet Muhammad. His whereabouts remain unknown despite a court order mandating the police to release Bala.

Kashamu laid to rest amidst tears in Ijebu Igbo

    The remains of Senator Buruji Kashamu were buried on Sunday, amidst wailing by sympathisers who thronged his Ijebu-Igbo country home of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, to witness his burial. Kashamu, who represented Ogun East Senatorial district during the 8th Assembly, passed on, on Saturday at the First Cardiology Consultants hospital in Lagos, as a result of COVID-19 complications.   The senator, was however, buried at around 12: 45p.m at his private residence in accordance with Islamic rites. We will not reopen Our Lagos, Ogun churches –MFM

The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries has said it will not reopen its churches in Lagos and Ogun states, despite the federal and state governments allowing for worship centres to reopen. The ministry, in a statement by the Chairman, MFM Media Committee, Pastor Oladele Bank-Olemoh, on Friday, noted that the church would not reopen in the two states until the tentative date of September 13, 2020. Court Orders EKEDC To Pay N1m Damages For Disconnecting Consumer Over Former Occupant’s Unpaid Bills.

 An Igbosere High Court in Lagos on Thursday awarded N1 million damages against Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) for disconnecting a consumer over unpaid bill by former occupant of the building. Justice Ibidun Harrison described as “unlawful” EKEDC’s refusal to connect the customer to electricity for unpaid bill consumed by a former occupant of the building.   The plaintiff/claimant, Mr Sunday Babalola, had through an originating summons, sued EKEDC for the refusal to connect his building to electricity for an outstanding bill owed EKEDC by a former occupant of the building. By: Olusegun Apena The Police have arrested a robbery suspect Ismail Yusuf who was alledged to have stolen an iPhone 11 from a passenger in a tricycle two weeks ago. The robbery suspect was reported to have been arrested this afternoon by men of Rapid Response Squad who were on patrol at Iyana Ipaja after the victim raised an alarm and informed the security personnel on sighting the robbery suspect. The police officers apprehended Yusuf after chasing him down and was reported to have offered bribe to the police officers to secure his release which they rejected. The suspect has however been taken to Ipaja Police Station for further investigation.

A four-count charge was brought against the artiste by the prosecuting team, which he denied.     A Federal Capital Territory mobile court in Abuja on Friday imposed a N200,000 fine on Nigerian musician, Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley, for violating the Presidential Task Force guidelines on COVID-19. A four-count charge was brought against the artiste by the prosecuting team, which he denied. The presiding magistrate, Idayat Akanni, who handed down the sentence, ordered Naira Marley to pay N50,000 on each of the four counts brought against him. He was also mandated to publish a public apology to the Federal Government of Nigeria in a national newspaper. The musician had on June 13, 2020 flown into Abuja with his crew for a concert at the Jabi Lake Mall. Earlier on Thursday, he was penalised in Lagos for the same offence.

The Lagos police command on Thursday arraigned Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley and his Manager, Seyi Awouga, for violating interstate travel ban during the COVID-19 travel restriction. Naira Marley, who is not a stranger to controversies, was also indicted when he showed up at a party which actress, Funke Akindele, organised in honour of her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, also known as JJC Skillz, in April. According to a statement released by Lagos Police spokesman, Bala Elkana, Naira Marley and his manager were arraigned on a one count charge at the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court, Oshodi around 3:30pm. English Premier League clubs voted against continuing to allow the use of five substitutes in each game next season at their annual general meeting (AGM) on Thursday. Clubs were allowed to increase the number of substitutes from three per match in the 2019-20 campaign when the league restarted in June, after a three-month hiatus due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Teams will revert to using up to three substitutes per match in the 2020-21 campaign, with a maximum of seven substitutes on the bench, the league said here in a statement. Soccer’s rule-making body IFAB, in May, changed the rules governing the maximum number of substitutes, looking to help teams battling possible fixture congestion as they tried to complete the season in a short period of time. It began with a feverish condition on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. I usually don’t joke with my health so I stopped at a pharmacy on my way home, got an anti malaria drug with some paracetamol and I used it as recommended. I must state here that I have never completed a full dose of any malaria treatment or drugs before getting back on my feet in my adult life, never! In fact, you would have to remind me sometimes before taking my drugs because I would have felt well after taking the second dose. This time, I completed the malaria medicine yet there was no improvement. By Thursday (July 2) evening and Friday (July 3) morning, my health condition had started to deteriorate.
