  The US embassy in Nigeria has celebrated Onyema Ogbuagbu, a Nigerian-born researcher and medical doctor, for his role in the development of a COVID-19 vaccine. Pfizer and BioNTech had announced that the first vaccine they developed against COVID-19 could prevent more than 90 percent of people from getting infected. The vaccine has been tested on 43,500 people in six countries and no safety concerns have been raised. Pfizer was quoted as saying it would be able to supply 50 million doses by the end of 2020, and around 1.3 billion by the end of 2021. Leading Pfizer research for a COVID-19 vaccine is Ogbuagu with years of medical research experience. ‌ ‌   The Lagos State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives has raised the alarm over the shortage of personal protective equipment in the state-owned hospitals Punch reports. The Chairman, Lagos NANNM, Mrs Blessing Israel, while speaking on the sidelines of the presentation of relief packages for new and expectant mothers by Unilever Nigeria Plc to the association, said nurses and other health workers in the state have been made to reuse some PPEs because of their shortage. She said, “To us, there are some PPEs that should not be reused, but nurses and other health workers are being asked to reuse them. This is not good enough as it will continue to endanger the lives of health workers and the patients.   Following  the death of the Lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 2  Barr.  Tunde Braimoh the leadership of the Lagos state House of Assembly has directed all its members to go for COVID-19 test.  Adewale Adedeji, the lawmaker representing Ifako Ijaiye 1 constituency, made this known in a statement, adding that his own test result turned out negative, The Nation reports.  Adedeji indicated in the statement that the assembly's directive was issued on Sunday, July 12.  “As directed by the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly, On Sunday, 12th of July, 2020; I went and submitted myself for the COVID-19 test, and I have gotten my result.  The test result came out NEGATIVE," the lawmaker said.
